Steeles Law renews major contract as primary employment law provider to Hovis®

Steeles Law, one of the East of England’s leading law firms, continues to act for baking business Hovis® as its primary employment law provider in GB.

After being awarded the contract in 2017, the law firm continues to assist with a full range of employment law services including a telephone advice helpline to each of the Hovis® site HR teams. It is one of two major national contracts in the food manufacturing sector for Steeles Law, reflecting the Norwich-based firm’s UK-wide reputation for expertise in this area.

With headquarters in High Wycombe, Hovis® employs 2,700 people at eight bakeries, one flour mill and two regional distribution centres. This contract was the first time Hovis® had chosen to partner with a law firm as its primary employment law provider.

Oliver Brabbins heads up the employment law team at Steeles Law.  “This continued contract is very exciting for Steeles and we’re proud to be a trusted partner for such a well-respected brand,” says Mr Brabbins.  “There’s a real synergy between Steeles and Hovis®.  Like us, Hovis® has genuine commitment to its people, and the brand is focused on quality rather than quantity. We’ll continue to support the Hovis® HR team to train and develop staff, advise on employee relation matters and represent the company in any employment claims.”

In the past three years, Steeles Law has more than doubled its employment team to nine, to service its growing number of clients.

“Strengthening employee relations is a key part of our work for our food production clients, supporting a collaborative way of working and avoiding unnecessary challenges.” adds Oliver.

Pete Hill is HR Director at Hovis®.  “One of Steeles’ key points of difference is their responsiveness,” he explains. “It’s vital that we address employment issues quickly, sensitively and professionally and we’ve always been able to rely on Oliver and his team to provide clear, risk-based advice.  Oliver benefits from a background in HR, and leads his team with confidence and pragmatism. Steeles Law never sit on the fence, they offer practical solutions.”

“We work with the team at Steeles Law as a partner, not just a supplier,” continues Mr Hill.  “We’re committed to treating our staff with fairness and respect; over and above basic employment rights.  Steeles are fast becoming a vital, extended part of our HR team, working alongside our in-house specialists to ensure compliance with employment law best practice.”
