Oliver excels in providing pragmatic, solution-based advice in an industrial relations context. His background provides him with a rare understanding of the role of the HR manager and his advice is designed to assist clients to achieve their objectives, rather than frustrate them in their efforts to run a business.
Particularly highly regarded for his advocacy skills, Oliver represents clients at employment tribunals across the UK and the Employment Appeal Tribunal. As well as advocacy, Oliver has a special interest and expertise in advising on large scale reorganisations and redundancies, industrial relations and the TUPE Regulations.
Recent work highlights include:
- Advising on a complex large scale redundancy exercise and the TUPE implications of a trans-national relocation outside the EU.
- Successfully defending a company seeking to dis-apply the TUPE regulations in circumstances where they acquired a business in a creditors’ voluntary liquidation.
- Successfully defending a company at an employment tribunal in a case involving a complex factual background to a dismissal for alleged sectarian harassment.
- Advising on the redundancy implications and practicalities of a large scale relocation of a head office for a major plc and advising on the application of a contractual mobility clause.
Oliver holds a CIPD qualification and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
