Prince dies without leaving a Will

News coming in from the United States is that the multimillionaire musician Prince died without leaving a Will and that court proceedings in relation to his estate have already commenced.

According to recent statistics, 55% of Americans die without a Will and in the UK, that figure rises to over 60%.

But what makes Prince’s apparent failure to put his affairs in order surprising is that he was a pioneer advocate when it came to protecting his assets during his lifetime through copyright protection of his musical works: waging a 25-year feud with Warner Bros Records over his early contracts, a battle with YouTube resulting in the removal of a purported 2,000 videos and a lawsuit against 22 fans who posted links to unauthorised recordings of his work on Facebook.

Make sure that your affairs are in order by speaking to a member of our wills, probate and tax team about Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney by calling 01603 598000 or emailing probate@steeleslaw.co.uk and a member of the team will be happy to contact you directly.

**Update: 2019. Prince died three years ago, his estate is still unsettled.
