Two of our colleagues, Fiona Walker and Alison Beales have decided to take on an epic challenge and join the Norwich City Sports Foundation on 3rd to 5th May by trekking the ancient paths of Hadrian’s Wall. We will be following Fiona and Alison’s journey as they embark upon training walks in readiness to take on the challenge in May.
Training Walk – Sunday, 10th March 2019
Having changed our minds many times over the last few months whether to undertake the Hadrian’s Wall Challenge, we were ‘encouraged’ by Emma Fletcher and Matt Parkhouse from Aviva to go along to a 20 mile training walk to make our final decision!
The training walk, organised by Matt, was to walk from Whitlingham to Loddon along the Wherryman’s Way (c.20 miles).
Kill or cure sprung to mind so we agreed to give the walk a try and met at 8.00 am, bright eyed and bushy tailed!! What we hadn’t bargained on was being battered by extremely strong headwinds, ice cold lashing rain, mud skating and getting thoroughly soaked through; the sun only deigning to make an appearance a mile from the end!
Possibly not the best day to convince us we should sign up, although this photo makes it look idyllic!
All that said, it was lovely to catch up with familiar faces and many laughs were had along the way. One of the best moments was when Matt produced a bottle of suntan lotion which he had carried all the way round – not sure which weather report he had seen!
Joking aside, we know that the Hadrian’s Wall Challenge will be one of the hardest things we have done, but it will be an excellent way to support our friends at Norwich City Community Sports Foundation. Click here to find out more about the foundation.
We will keep you up to date with the exploits of our training walks between now the actual challenge in May.
If you are able to help us raise money for this amazing charity please see our fundraising page here. Thank you so much in anticipating of your donation.
